Some places don’t reveal themselves all at once. You notice them slowly, through light shifting on a wall, the texture under your fingers, the quiet moments in between plans. Further felt like that from the start. Staying there wasn’t about ticking boxes, but about paying attention—and letting the space unfold in its own time.

I’ve had my eye on Further Hotel for a while. I kept seeing it pop up on design pages, and the vibe looked exactly like my kind of thing: earthy, minimal, and beautiful design. So last weekend, I finally booked a staycation in Pererenan, hoping for a short escape from the noise of everyday routines. Let me tell you, the road to get there was no joke. the traffic in Canggu was borderline ridiculous. But as soon as I stepped into Further, I forgot about all that chaos.

The hotel doesn’t scream for attention, it just sits there, tucked in between some shops, cafe and warungs, like it’s been there forever. Its raw brick walls, textured patterns, and open air layout immediately set a mood. It’s not polished in a glossy, or five-star resort kind of way, it’s warm, grounded, and deeply intentional. The whole space feels like it was made for people who really care about design, but also want to feel something, not just snap photos.

I stayed in the Urban King Suite, and I can honestly say, it’s not just a room, it’s an experience. Everything about it is built to make you slow down and notice. The bed is sunken into the floor, the walls are wrapped in warm toned plaster, and there’s this motorized roller blind that quietly lifts to reveal soft natural light streaming through the brick lattice. I got way too excited about that detail. The whole space feels like a balance of raw and refined, like it was made for people who appreciate texture as much as comfort. The bathroom was partially open, with filtered light above the shower that made morning showers feel like a ritual. Every texture, leather, timber, concrete was tactile, calming, and just right.

One of my favorite parts about Further was just wandering the area. Pererenan is such a good mix of laid-back and lively, think local dogs roaming the street, a mix of digital nomads and local families, and lots of cute cafés and concept stores. I even found a gelato place right across the street (Ettore’s. go try the pistachio). The beach is about a 15-minute walk or 5-minute scooter ride. It’s not packed like Echo Beach but still has enough energy to feel fun.

The hotel itself doesn’t feel like a hotel. It’s more like a curated living space that opens up into the neighborhood. You don’t bump into big groups or tour buses. There’s no reception desk that feels like a check-in counter. Everything is smooth, simple, and self guided. You get the sense that the team behind it really wanted to create a space for slowing down and noticing things.

As someone who really appreciates good architecture and thoughtful interiors, I found myself photographing textures instead of selfies. The way the light hit the brick. The way the shadows moved as the day passed. The smell of wood and earth in the air. It felt like the space was telling its own story, and I was just lucky enough to stay for a chapter.

Would I go back? Absolutely. But not for the usual vacation checklist. I’d go back to reconnect with good design, good food, and good stillness. Further isn’t for everyone. But if you love a place that feels considered, layered, and lived in, this might just be your favorite kind of escape too.
